How many out there remember this billboard? I was a senior in high school when this went up. Back in 1971, Seattle was heavily dependent on Boeing for jobs, and the company had cut more than 60,000 of them. Unemployment was at 13 percent, more than double the national average.
I am kind of relating this event in our own state history to what is happening here at Wenatchee Nazarene (WeNaz). It can be said that we are in a recession with in our body of believers. There are those who have left and now there are those who state they are leaving. Some have even considered this time of vacating as a crisis. We can look at this as a terrible time in our church...........or we can look at it as a new beginning.
Pastor Tom and his family will soon be on a new adventure. We will miss him and his family, although he will continue his ministry here in the valley.
So where does that leave those who stay with the home church? Are we to pack up our bags and head for greener fields. Shall we move back home with our parents (remember why you left home). Do we sit in the corner and cry "Why oh why did this happen". Are we to fret and worry:"How are we going to make it, we cant even pay our budgets."
Do you remember the disciples when Jesus was crucified? They were sad, troubled and concerned and not sure where to go or what to do next. This was all on a Friday, a dark and gloomy Friday. Do you think they had much hope after they had placed Jesus in the tomb? Their dreams of God's Kingdom were dashed. Then what?.....................................Then came Sunday.
At our bleakest moments, at our darkest hour, those times when we feel the farthest from God, He is there. All we have to do is trust Him.
We are being given an extremely unique gift. We are going to struggle, that's for sure, but if we follow God's will instead of our own He will bless both Pastor Tom and our own body of believers. Doubling the power of Kingdom building. I guess that my whole point to this post is to not give up, let's let the Lord work His wonders and lets follow the path that is true. After all He has told us that we will not be forsaken.
1 Chronicles 28:20
David also said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished.
