Have you ever been driving down the road and thinking "How did I get here? I don't remember making that turn!"
Lately I have been working at Lake Wenatchee at the YMCA camp lodge. It burned several months ago and now it is being rebuilt. I remember going to this camp when I was a youngin, I have several memories of that time, I think that is why I really dont care for camping to this day. One of the most vivid memories I have is coming home lying down in the back seat of the car and thinking this must have been a dream and this week really didn't happen. As you can guess, I really did not enjoy my time there as a child.
I'm wondering, does anyone out there feel this way about what has happened in our church? When we wake up it will have never happened it was just a dream.
I ask this question: Did the disciples feel this also when Jesus was crucified? Their whole world changed in one weekend. I bet they wished that they could have woke from their dream.
We have to remember that with out knowing pain we don't really know joy. After all if one only knows joy then what is there to compare it too.
We can get through this time of change, but we need to change our ways of doing things. We can no longer do church the way it has always been done. Times are different, people's life styles are different. Years ago would we have thought that having a group of motorcyclists within the church was a good thing? And now our own Nazarene General Assembly this year is having an official commissioning of this very same thing. Doing church for the sake of church is not right, what about those who have been so turned off by churchy people in their past that they will not even get close to the property of a church let alone attend a meeting there.
Lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater, lets find that new way that will help change people's lives and transform them into what God has always wanted them to be.
