I don't know how many of you know that classic line "Feed Me" from "The Little Shop of Horrors".
Anyway that line has been nagging at me today, the reason is that there have been some that have left our church body stating that: they were not getting fed. I have been wondering what is really meant by that statement.
In Hebrews it says this:
Hebrews 5:11-14
11We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. 12In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Now here is the Skid take on being fed. As little ones we depend on our parents to know what is nutritional and what is not. As we grow we develop our own tastes and we even have favorites, (ice cream and chocolate), but if we are left to eat only what we like then quite often the results are not conducive to building strong healthy bodies. When it is time to leave our parents care, it is expected that we can find our own source of nourishment.
What I see in the church is those who have never been weened off their mothers milk. They have made other choices in their lives but they are still dependant on others to feed them spiritually.
If I were a man that only depended on others for my spiritual nourishment I would never get fed. God speaks to me in so many different ways. I can find Him in the forest, riding the roads, my wife, my kids, my gkids, my work, my dog Molly,or even in stupid videos such as the one above. Does this mean that I am spiritually mature? I can answer that with a resounding NO. But I do know that depending on others is not the way to know God. Our relationship with the Lord is a personal one, no one is going to hand you their spiritual experience. You have to earn this by yourself.
So where are we to get fed?
Think about it, is God only in the church house on Sunday between 9:15 and 12:30? Is the Pulpit the only place He speaks to you? What are you missing the rest of the time?
Read the Bible, start a small group, share your God experience with others, love.......love ........love those who are hard to love.
Remember even the little birds grow up, leave the nest, and find food that God has provided for them.
Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
That's my take ===Skid===
